lapstack

The interface

lapstack has two steps, shown as a segmented control in the middle of the toolbar: 1 Stack and 2 Save. Keys 1 and 2 switch between them. That is the whole navigation — there are no modes hidden elsewhere.

1 Stack — the workbench

Everything before the file list happens here: adding frames, setting parameters, running, inspecting the result, and retouching it.

The toolbar

ControlWhat it does
Add frames…A file picker for image files
Add folder…A whole folder and its subfolders; with the batch split set to one per folder, each folder becomes a stack
ClearEmpties the session
Open project… / Save project…Project files — frames, settings, registration and retouch strokes
Run LAPStarts the run. The label changes with what the run will produce: Run LAP + DFR, Run LAP ×3 for a batch, draft ÷4, → DNG
▾ (beside Run)Run options: the depth-map rendering, rendering from slabs, the weighted average, linear DNG, and the batch split
CancelStops a run in progress

The filmstrip

Down the left, one thumbnail per frame in stacking order. Thumbnails appear as frames are decoded, before any run.

Each entry shows, once there is something to show, its registration (shift, scale, rotation), its brightness gain, and its percentage in focus. Hovering a thumbnail reveals its tools — exclude, include, move up, move down, remove — and thumbnails can be dragged to reorder. See frames for the full editing model.

The head of the filmstrip counts the frames in the run and any excluded ones, and carries reverse for a stack shot back to front.

The parameter panel

Down the right, every control the engine has, grouped into sections. Settings persist in the browser between sessions and travel inside a project file.

The viewer

The middle of the window. Its header is a segmented control with three groups, each with its own layers underneath:

GroupLayers
SourceThe aligned frames as shot, with an optional focus peaking band and its threshold
StackLAP (the pyramid result), DFR (the depth-map rendering, when it ran), WAV (the weighted average, when it ran), and any kept results
DepthFocus depth, Confidence, and In focus

Below the layer control sit only the controls that apply to what is on screen: a Gray/Turbo lookup table and a slice toggle on the depth views, a peaking threshold on Source, a frame slider whenever the shown layer depends on a frame.

On the right of the header are:

  • compare — a vs dropdown listing the other layers, a draggable divider, and flip or space to swap sides. Both panes share one zoom and pan.
  • Retouch (R) — whenever a stacked image is on screen. See retouching.
  • Crop (C) — arms a drag on the image; the rectangle you draw becomes the run's crop window, applied to every file the Save step writes. The ✕ beside the button clears it.

Drag and drop works anywhere on the window.

2 Save — the file list

The Save step takes over the whole window and shows one card: a list of every file this run can produce, each with a checkbox, a thumbnail and the exact file name, followed by the settings that shape them — format and bit depth, JPEG quality, file naming, cropping, metadata, the scale bar, animations, stereo and rocking, the 3D model, and content credentials.

Saving covers it in full.
